The Milwaukee Police Department Canine Unit was formed in 1990.  Alderman Bob Anderson was the driving force behind its formation
when he convinced Police Chief Phillip Arreola to begin the process in 1989.  One sergeant and six police officers made up the original unit.
The six officers were sent to North Central Canine Institute for their initial six weeks of training.  These six canines were trained in both patrol
and narcotics detection.  On December 25, 1999, Police Chief Arthur Jones disbanded the unit for unspecified reasons.
After an eight year layoff, Police Chief Nannette Hegerty decided to bring back the unit.  In the spring of 2007 one sergeant and four officers
were assigned to reform the Canine Unit.  These officers attended a four week training session in both patrol and narcotics work.

These two photos were found in the archives of the Milwaukee Policer Historical Society.  I am trying to determine if this
was a early attempt at forming the K-9 Unit.  Anyone with any information about these photos please fill in the details.
