The original Milwaukee Police Horse Patrol began on April 13, 1929.  The horses and all of the equipment were donated by the United
States Army.  The patrol worked the downtown areas of Milwaukee and were assigned to the Traffic Bureau.  The original patrol
lasted until September 20, 1948.
In 1996, Sergeant Fred Tice and Police Officer James Storney were able to bring back the patrol.  Named the Historic Horse Patrol the
officers were used in parades and were involved in patrol at high profile events.  In March 1999, the Horse Patrol returned as a full
time unit to the Milwaukee Police Department where it continues today.
