The Second District was created to handle the growing crime problems on Milwaukee's south side. The "South Side Station" was
opened in 1891. The two story brick building was constructed at a cost of $30,000 and located on the corner of South First Street (now
South Sixth Street) and West Mineral Street.
In 1953 the station was moved to its current location at 245 West Lincoln Avenue. This move also combined the Second District with the
Fourth District (Bay View Station) creating one larger District. This change gave District Two the entire southeast side of the city to
patrol. At this time District Two encompassed a large portion of Milwaukee's Latino community along with Mitchell International Airport.
In 2009 the south side district boundaries were again redrawn and District Two was given the entire north end of the south side of the
city. With this change this became one of the most diverse districts in the city.
