District One has always encompassed the center of the city or Milwaukee's Downtown. The first home to District One was originally
located at North Broadway and East Mason Streets until 1885. It was in the heart of the central business district and was referred to as
"Central Station."
In 1885 the Central Station was relocated to a more modern facility at East Oneida Street (now Wells Street) and North Broadway. In 1917
this building was damaged by a terrorist bomb that took the lives of nine officers and two civilians (1917 Bombing).
In 1935 the administrative headquarters, training school, and District One moved to the newly constructed Safety Building located at 935
North Eighth Street (currently 821 West State Street). This building was shared with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department and
various courts.
A final move to a Milwaukee Police only facility was made in 1971 after construction of the Police Administration Building was completed
at 749 West State Street. District One is housed on the second floor of the building.
